Kusadasi, Turkey - Oct 14
The Temple of
Apollo at
Didyma was
the fourth stop
on our tour of
ancient Turkey.
Medusa's
Head from
the temple
I used Rusty
and Judy as
references
for the size
of the
monuments.
Rusty is
standing
next to one
of the
columns that
fell during an
earthquake
and Judy is
standing
next to the
base of one
of the
columns.
Every place
has the
"Golden
Arches" !!!
The Christians
lose again!!
Me admiring
one of the
carved
arches.
This place was really well
preserved and you could
walk inside of it. These
arches are about 20 ft. high!!
Our third stop
was at Miletus,
another ancient
Roman city. This
city had over
150,000 people
living in it at it's
apex.
Our second stop
was at Magnesia
which was built in
about 700 B.C. It is
currently being
restored since it
was destroyed by
the Persians
following a
dispute between
two heads of state.
We bought you
all something
from this
store...just
kidding!!
This is another
stadium like the
Colosseum and
many Christians
met their end
here. Recently it
has been used as
a theater.
One of the more
impressive items
at Ephesus (I mean
the building not
us). This is the
Library of Celsus.
Our first stop in
Turkey was
Ephesus. This
is the most
impressive site
in Turkey.  It is
great, but we
think Leptis
Magnus in
Libya is more
impressive.
We had a great time in Turkey. Our tour lasted over 8 hours
and took us to four ancient Roman, Greek, and Persian sites.
The weather was great with no rain and a temperature in the
high 70's or low 80's. We had lunch at a Turkish restaurant in
the town of Didyma.
