The cruise is over!!
We left the ship about 10 a.m. and
caught a taxi right to the hotel,  It
is located right at the airport and
will make it easy for us to catch our
6:45 a.m. flight in Wednesday. Our
room is pretty nice.
We went back to the
Genoa harbor area after
checking in and had
lunch at an outdoor
street market.  We had
some kind of meat in a
roll with onions and red
peppers. It was pretty
good.  I had a cup of wine
with mine which made it
better!
Then we went to the
Genoa Aquarium
which is pretty unique.
 We spent a couple of
hours there, did a little
shopping, and then
went back to the hotel.
 We did all our
traveling around on
the local buses since
there is a stop right at
the airport.
While wandering around
downtown looking for the bus stop
we ran across this interesting
looking old building.  It turned out
to be the library for the  Genoa
University which is downtown in a
number of very old looking
buildings.
On Tuesday we hopped an early bus to the train station and caught a train to Santa
Margherita.  From there we caught another local bus to Portofino.  The Italian coast is
really spectacular in this area. (We took another 150 pictures!)
Santa
Margherita is a
picturesque
little village
along the coast
.
Portofino
You need to wear
good hiking shoes to
visit Portofino. We
walked about 4 km on
trails like these that
wound through the
hills around Portofino.
This one lead to the
Brown Castle.
We visited the Brown
Castle which was very
interesting and also
provided some pretty
spectaular views of the
area since it is situated
on the top of a hill
overlooking the harbor.
We also visited the
Church of San
Giorgio which
provided some good
views of the ocean
(we saw a group of
dolphins swimming
by).
We had a late lunch at a
sidewalk café in
Portofino. Underneath
the napkins are a couple
of ham and cheese
sandwiches.  They were
good, but dry since they
didn't have any mustard
or mayonnaise on them.
Maybe we just ordered
them wrong!

We got back to the hotel
about 5 p.m.
Back in Genoa
This wasn't our ship, but it was in the Genoa harbor and
we thought the grandkids might get a kick out of it.
