The origins of Denmark's flag date back to the 14th
Century. The Danish flag is the oldest known state flag in
the world still in use. The flag is red and contains a white
Nordic Cross. The cross represents Christianity and is
shifted towards the hoist of the flag. The Nordic cross also
associates Denmark with the Nordic countries of Northern
Europe. Denmark was the first country to use this design
then Finland. Iceland, Sweden and Norway followed.

|
We arrive in Copenhagen at 9:25 a.m. on
May 23rd and spend three nights there.
We will leave Copenhagen on May 26th
and drive to Silkeborg. This will be our
home base for the next two days as we
explore the Danish countryside around
Nykobing Mors where my great
grandparents immigrated from in 1912.
On May 28th we leave Silkeborg and
drive to Frederikshavan and catch a ferry
to Gothenborg, Sweden.
